The Owl Nebula (also known as Coquette Nebula or M 97 and NGC 3587 in astronomical catalogs) is a planetary nebula visible in the consellation Ursa Major.
The name "Owl" was assigned due to the two dark circles visible inside the nebular disc that, according to the astronomer William Parsons, look like the eyes of an Owl.
M 97 is about 2600 l.y. away from us, and extends "just" 3 l.y. across.
